Tails 'n Tales
There are so many heartwarming stories of lives saved through Dallas Animal Services. From tales of inspiring rescues to stories of emotional reunions as well as homeless dogs and cats being adopted into loving families to call their own. Tails 'n Tales is a place to share your story about a Dallas Animal Services pet you've adopted or perhaps great service you've received from one of our staff members. Please be aware that although we won't change the idea of your story, we may edit it for appropriateness.
Rhonda Jeverson was heartbroken when her dog, Rudy, a pit bull terrier mix, went missing in October while visiting family in Houston. She tried looking for him and stayed as long as she could, but had to return to Virginia for work.
In November, Rudy was picked up by some Animal Services officers while wandering the streets of Dallas and brought to the shelter. Rudy was a very well behaved and happy dog, so it was obvious he must have an owner somewhere.
Fortunately, Rudy was microchipped so DAS was able to contact Ms. Jeverson in Virginia and tell her Rudy had been found! She was elated about the news, especially since Rudy had just been designated as a certified service dog before they travelled to Houston. Everyone wondered how Rudy made it to Dallas…but only Rudy knows. Then the logistics of getting Rudy home began.
Ms. Jeverson couldn’t come to Dallas to pick Rudy up and DAS had no way to transport him up there. Luckily
a Dallas rescue group, Paws in the City, picked up the tab for a
plane ticket to get Rudy home in Virginia.
Ms. Jeverson said it was the best Christmas present she could get!
